We can manage the entire process

If you live in a rural area or are not connected to a central wastewater system, you’ll likely have or need a septic tank for wastewater. It’s important to use a licensed plumber and wastewater specialist to install your septic tank to ensure the system operates safely and efficiently.

There are septic tanks for almost any application, from domestic tanks for household use right through to commercial and industrial sized tanks for structures such as dairy sheds.

Because septic tanks process wastewater, you need council consent to get a septic tank system installed. We can manage the entire process, including system design, obtaining consent and managing the installation.

Well-designed and installed systems can operate without problems for decades, so call us for an on-site inspection.

How do septic tanks work?

A septic tank serves as a standalone sewage system and treatment plant. Most systems use gravity to feed wastewater to the tank, but some use pumps depending on the location of the tank. This is also the reason most septic tanks are buried in the ground.

Septic tank systems can process wastewater in different ways. Most modern tanks use a combination of filtration and bacteria, either with or without the use of oxygen depending on the tank. The bacteria living in the tank break down solids so they can be absorbed into a soakage area.

Your soakage area is just as important as the tank itself. It should be large enough and dry enough to absorb the waste from your household, as the effluent from the tank has pollutants that are dangerous for waterways. Wastewater can also contain bacteria, viruses and parasites, so you need a system designed to operate safely.

Grey water systems

Grey water is different from wastewater or black water. It’s water from basins, baths, showers and washing machines which can be reused for certain applications, like watering the garden, if you obtain consent to install a system. Black water contains human waste and must be processed through a septic tank and soakage area.

If you have high demands on your water supply, a grey water system can alleviate some pressure. We can talk you through your options during a site inspection.
